PIA Resumes Toronto Flights After Two-Week Suspension

01/10/2025

ISLAMABAD – The government says a stronger and more reliable Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is key to boosting the country’s global connections and opening new doors for trade and tourism.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar shared these views during a meeting with PIA CEO Aamir Hayat in Islamabad. The two discussed plans to restructure the national airline and make it competitive again on the international stage.

PIA’s Big Return to Toronto

In a promising step forward, PIA has restarted its flights to Toronto, Canada, after a suspension that lasted more than two weeks. The airline had paused operations on September 13 to carry out important maintenance checks on its aircraft.

Earlier this week, the first Karachi-to-Toronto flight successfully took off, restoring direct air travel between Pakistan and Canada. This route is vital for thousands of passengers who depend on it for both business and family travel.

Why Flights Were Suspended

PIA explained that the break was necessary to complete critical safety and maintenance work on its planes. During this time, many travelers faced delays and had to find other ways to reach their destinations.

Now that the technical work is finished, PIA says its planes are fully cleared for international operations.

The airline has assured passengers that it is committed to keeping safety as its top priority while also working on improving service reliability.

Government officials believe these efforts will help rebuild trust in the national carrier and strengthen Pakistan’s presence in the global aviation market.
