Pakistan’s development plans are gaining speed as the federal government has handed a wide range of infrastructure projects to the Pakistan Infrastructure Development Company Limited (PIDCL) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Sindh.

According to documents obtained by Wealth Pakistan, PIDCL has been assigned seven new PSDP schemes in KP worth Rs1.768 billion. The largest of these projects is aimed at improving underdeveloped districts in Shangla, with Rs1 billion allocated on a 50:50 cost-sharing basis.

In addition, two major infrastructure projects in Mansehra District will also be carried out by the company.

These include the construction of an RCC pre-stressed bridge at Mari Safdar Shah on the Siran River and another RCC pre-stressed bridge at Shah Da Punja on the same river. The projects are estimated to cost Rs399.6 million and Rs368.35 million, respectively.

In Sindh, PIDCL has been tasked with executing 11 schemes—eight in Karachi and three in Hyderabad—worth a total of Rs4,148.245 million.

Besides PSDP projects, the company will implement SAP schemes in Sindh and KP. This includes 17 projects in Sindh for FY2024–25 with Rs4.25 billion in funding, five projects in KP in the same year worth Rs1.11 billion, and 10 projects in KP for FY2025–26, costing Rs2.15 billion.

PIDCL has also announced plans for urban development projects and infrastructure upgrades for national institutions.

These initiatives fall under the company’s mandate to carry out strategic development projects across Pakistan.

Among the major upcoming initiatives is the Karachi Urban Infrastructure Development Package, with an estimated cost of Rs15 billion.

The PC-I for this project has already been submitted to the Central Development Working Party (CDWP).

Another important scheme is the Hyderabad Urban Infrastructure Development Package (Revamping & Rehabilitation), valued at Rs5 billion. Its PC-I has also been submitted to the CDWP.

In addition, PIDCL plans to develop federal court buildings in Karachi, with a projected cost of Rs4 billion. The revised PC-I for this project will be submitted soon.

The company is also preparing proposals to construct offices for the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), though the costs for these projects are still under review.
