Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has officially announced that it will resume flights to the United Kingdom starting October 25, a move that has excited overseas Pakistanis who have been waiting for the national carrier’s return.
Two Weekly Flights to Manchester
PIA will begin with two weekly flights from Islamabad to Manchester, operating on Saturdays and Tuesdays. The Islamabad flight will depart at 12 noon and reach Manchester at 5 pm local time.
The return flight will leave Manchester at 7 pm and arrive in Islamabad at 7 am.
Gradual Expansion of UK Services
Officials said the number of weekly flights to Manchester will increase over time to meet growing demand.
In the second phase, PIA plans to introduce direct flights to London, expanding its services in the UK.
A Welcome Step for Overseas Pakistanis
The airline described the announcement as a “welcome development” for Pakistanis living in Britain, who have been relying on foreign carriers since PIA suspended its UK operations.
Last month, PIA received approval from the UK Department of Transport as a third country operator, paving the way for direct flights starting next month.
Passenger and Cargo Services
PIA will provide both passenger and cargo flights, boosting commercial activity between Pakistan and the UK. The UK Department of Transport has issued a five-year ACC3 certificate for security and cargo operations, valid until 2030.
This allows PIA to carry cargo from Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad to the UK.
Audit and Certification
Before granting the license, British authorities conducted an audit with support from Pakistan Civil Aviation and UK inspection teams.
Following the audit, the Department of Transport formally approved PIA’s operations on Tuesday.
The approval is seen as a strong sign of international trust in PIA, which has been working to rebuild its reputation and expand its international operations.
