Pakistan Railways is investing almost Rs 35 billion into a massive set of projects to make train travel across the country much safer and more reliable.

These projects include important work to fix tracks, rebuild worn-out parts of the railway, make weak bridges stronger, and update how the railway checks its systems.

All of this is being done to make sure trains run smoothly and safely.

Big Fixes for Key Railway Tracks

Official papers show that work to improve track safety is happening right now in several major parts of the railway network.

These key areas include Rohri-Khanpur, Tando Adam-Rohri, Kiamari-Hyderabad, Khanewal-Shandara, Rohri-Sibi, and Sher Shah-Kundian.

This huge effort is expected to cost around 31.8 billion Rupees.

The goal is to get the tracks into much better shape so that trains can run safely and on time through these important sections of the country’s rail system.

More Track Repairs Underway

On top of the big track safety plan, other sections are also being fixed up. For example, work is being done on the tracks between Kotri, Akhondabad, and Dadu.

About Rs 2.3 billion has been set aside for this specific project. This shows that the government is serious about fixing and strengthening important parts of the rail lines that have become old and damaged over time.

Making Bridges Strong Again

Pakistan Railways is also focusing on the railway bridges. There’s a special plan to strengthen bridges that are old or weak.

This work is expected to cost about Rs 980 million.

By making these bridges strong and stable, the railway can ensure that passenger and cargo trains can move securely without any worries for many years to come.

Using Tech for Safer Inspections

The railway isn’t just fixing things physically; it’s also improving its digital tools for checking and monitoring safety. The department is building an E-Inspection Management System.

This new system will use technology to organize and simplify how railway inspections are done. The Punjab IT Board is helping with the technical side of this project.

Once finished, the E-Inspection System will help Pakistan Railways quickly spot safety problems, fix them fast, and keep train operations safe and efficient using a smart, technology-based system.

Safer Crossings for Everyone

As part of the overall safety plan, the authorities are also inspecting railway crossings. They found 536 dangerous crossings that did not have staff watching them.

So far, as many as 168 unmanned crossings have been upgraded to make them safer and help prevent accidents.

The work to upgrade the rest of these dangerous crossings is still going on, with the aim of making every single identified crossing completely safe.
