A major step in Pakistan’s digital future took place as South Korea disbursed $2.34 million in October 2025 to support the Islamabad IT Park funding. This move represents a key milestone in boosting Pakistan’s technological infrastructure and driving its digital transformation, reports this reporter.

Islamabad IT Park Funding: Key Milestone in Pakistan’s Tech Growth

The total funding pledged by South Korea for the project is $15.20 million, aimed at building modern technology parks across Pakistan. These parks are designed to be hubs for innovation, research, and growth in the country’s tech sector.

Creating World-Class Facilities for Startups and Research

The funds will focus on creating top-tier facilities for technology startups, IT companies, and research centers. The goal is to foster an environment where scientific research, development, and entrepreneurship can thrive.

Initial Work and Preparatory Funding

Earlier, from July to October 2025, $6.55 million (PKR 1,855.82 million) was allocated for initial work. This funding covered land acquisition, feasibility studies, and early design tasks needed to establish the technology parks.

Building a Supportive Ecosystem for Tech Entrepreneurs

This financial support highlights South Korea’s continuing commitment to strengthening Pakistan’s tech capabilities. Both countries aim to reduce the digital gap and build a strong digital economy together.

The Technology Parks Development Project plans to establish multiple parks across Pakistan, focusing on key cities to serve as innovation hubs.

These parks will offer infrastructure for research, development, and production, helping Pakistani businesses and startups use modern technologies to compete globally.

They will also create a supportive ecosystem for tech entrepreneurs and professionals, including office spaces, R&D facilities, and networking opportunities.

These parks are expected to play a major role in building Pakistan’s IT and technology services capacity.

Strengthening Pakistan-South Korea Technology Collaboration

This initiative continues a broader partnership between South Korea and Pakistan in technology and digital infrastructure. South Korea has long supported Pakistan through IT capacity building, technology transfer, and innovation projects.

This latest disbursement reinforces their long-term collaboration to promote technology-driven growth.

The project also aligns with Pakistan’s strategy to improve its global standing in the digital economy. By focusing on innovation, digital transformation, and entrepreneurship, these technology parks are expected to contribute significantly to the country’s long-term IT growth.

It is noted that the project was originally scheduled to finish by October 31, 2025. During a Senate Standing Committee meeting in September, when members asked about the deadline, the project director admitted that meeting this date was unlikely.

The Korean company representative added that most work would be completed by December 31, 2025, but the full commissioning of the Islamabad Technology Park would only be finalized by February 2026.
