FBR Deadline for Jewelers: No Raids Till Sept 30

27/09/2025

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has given jewelers across Pakistan a short window of relief: no raids will be carried out in jewellery markets until September 30.

The pause, officials say, is meant to give shop owners time to file their tax returns and fall in line with regulations. But the FBR has made one thing clear—once the deadline passes, a strict crackdown will begin.

FBR and Jewelers Association

The decision came after the FBR Chairman held talks with Qasim Shikarpuri, President of the Jewelers Association, and his team.

During the meeting, jewelers’ concerns were discussed at length, and Shikarpuri announced the formation of a four-member committee to help resolve industry issues.

Data Shows Thousands of Jewelers Non-Compliant

For now, the FBR is holding back. But the tax authority isn’t exactly in the dark—it already has data on 35,000 jewelers nationwide.

Out of these, 14,000 haven’t filed tax returns, and more than 6,000 declared zero income. Among the 15,000 who did file, many reported earnings that don’t match actual records, according to officials.

Strict Crackdown to Begin After September 30

The deadline of September 30 is now a ticking clock. After that date, the FBR says it will come down hard on non-compliant jewelers.

To streamline the process, jewelers have been divided into categories: A-category shops will display a green plate, B-category shops a yellow plate, while criteria for C and D categories are still being finalized.

Until then, jewelers have a choice: file the right paperwork—or face the glittering edge of the taxman’s hammer.
