Punjab Launches Campaign to Target Property Tax Evasion
According to a senior official, the department is working hard to identify people who owe taxes and make sure that all properties are properly assessed for tax.
They are collecting and analyzing data in collaboration with the Urban Unit and the Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) to uncover tax evasion and make sure no taxable property is left out.
Special Teams Formed to Tackle Property Tax Evasion
“More than a dozen teams have been formed to track down and go after tax evaders,” the official said. “Thousands of properties across Punjab have already been inspected, leading to over 120,000 new properties being added to the tax list this year.”
Property Tax Evasion Recovery Efforts Yield Rs13 Billion
Thanks to these efforts, the department has already contributed around Rs13 billion to the national treasury through property tax recovery. The goal for this year’s collection is approximately Rs33 billion.
Strict Action Taken Against Property Tax Defaulters and Officials
In Lahore alone, 46,000 properties that were previously unassessed are now part of the tax system. Officials have also managed to register over 250,000 new properties.
Along with this, strict actions are being taken against both property owners who owe taxes and government officials involved in any irregularities.
Transparency and Fairness in Property Tax Collection
The official emphasized that the department is dedicated to transparency and fairness in the property tax collection process, making sure that everyone pays their fair share to help fund the country’s development.
